Computers, Internet, Marathons, and a Dog!

Sharing is caring!

It’s been a crazy 10 days around here, with lots of things coming and going. It started last week when our laptop died.  It was a 4 year old PC with a few other problems, so we decided to let it rest in peace rather than trying to fix it. Plus, it gave my husband a chance to fulfill his dream of owning a Macbook. We found a young man on Craigslist who was selling his year old Mac to help pay off his credit card debt.  We live a debt-free lifestyle and like encouraging others to do the same, so it was a win/win.  There’s been a little bit of a learning curve to it, but so far so good.

Then next, after our laptop died, our internet followed suit.  After several calls to tech support, it looked like it was going to have to be a complete re-installation, and the first time slot they had available was 7 days later!  I didn’t think I was so reliant on internet, but I feel like I’ve been living in the dark ages around here.  If it wasn’t for the data plans on our smart phones, we wouldn’t have made it.  I hate saying that—it sounds so whiny.  Try it though!  See how long you can go . . .

Tuesday of this week also was the official start of my marathon training.  Yes, I said marathon!  This will be my first one.  I’ve been running on and off for about 4 years now, and have run two half marathons and a smattering of 5k’s.  I started when my second son was about 14 months old as an easy way to get some exercise and get myself outside.  I ended up enjoying it more than I ever thought I would, especially racing.

Here I am after my first half marathon, at the tender age of 29 and less one child . . .

And then after my second, 3 years and one pregnancy later . . .

In April I finished nursing my youngest, and thought that since I had more time on my hands, I would give a full marathon a try. My race is in October, which means I have all summer to train during the Texas heat—I have to be out by 6:00 or 6:30 at the latest or its gets unbearable.  I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

Lastly, we added a new member to our family a few days ago:

His name is Geebo, and he’s a little over 1 year old. Before we had kids we had 2 cats, but they had to find a new home when we moved to Texas 5 years ago.  Since then we have been without a pet (not counting 2 beta fish), and our poor kids have been begging us for a dog for quite some time.  We stumbled upon this little guy at an adoption event over the weekend.  He was with his foster family who had 4 little children, and the foster mom was able to assure me that he was excellent with small children.  We thought, what the heck! Life is already crazy so why not throw in a dog.  The boys have LOVED him and I don’t feel like such a mean old mom anymore.

With all of that going on, I did manage to finish one major furniture project.  Here is a sneak peek:

I’ll write a full post on my process with it in a day or two, so check back for more pics.  Yall have an awesome week!
